Your information

Privacy Policy

Effective October 14, 2026

Information you provide

When you create an account, we store your name, email address and sign-in information. Passwords are stored as hashes. Optional profile information includes your student or parent account type, grade, biography, exploration goal, time zone and selected avatar or cover.

Using exploration tools creates questionnaire answers, results, recommendation reports, saved items, comparisons, plans and Finder criteria or results. Support stores the subject and contents of your conversation and processing history. Connection requests store the people involved, their status and the permissions you choose.

If you use an available outside sign-in provider, we receive the account identifier and profile or email information needed to connect that sign-in method. The provider’s own privacy policy also applies.

How we use it

We use this information to sign you in, save and display your own work, generate the exploration results you request, manage connections, respond to support requests and protect the service. Authorized support staff can access conversations to respond to them; operational administrators can access information as needed to run and secure the service.

Your answers, private reports and support conversations are not public directory content. Family access to eligible results requires an accepted connection and the permissions described in the family feature. A friendship connection does not by itself grant access to your questionnaire answers or reports.

Cookies and technical information

Essential cookies keep your browser session, protect forms and support sign-in. A remember-me cookie is used if you choose that option. Browser session storage keeps the institution IDs you select for comparisons. A separate privacy cookie records an opt-out without assigning an advertising identifier.

Web servers and service components process request information such as IP address, browser information, requested URL, time and errors for delivery, security and troubleshooting. Infrastructure and configured sign-in or email services process information needed to provide their functions. When you follow an outside link, the destination website receives the request under its own policies.

The current StudyIndex site does not include advertising pixels or third-party behavioral analytics. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Our privacy choices page lets you record an opt-out and recognizes the Global Privacy Control signal.

Retention and removal

Completed test results stay with a persistent browser identifier until you delete them. Unfinished abandoned tests are removed after 30 days. Guest support conversations expire 30 days after creation and are removed by daily cleanup. Clearing the persistent cookie can end access to anonymous tests; account-owned results remain available after you sign back in. Guest support access depends on its separate browser session. Other exploration features explain their retention and expiry in their own private views.

Account-owned saved work is retained until you remove it or delete the account. Account deletion removes the account and its related private exploration and support records from the application. Security logs and any backups are separate from the application’s self-service deletion; contact us with questions about information outside your account.

Access, correction, export and deletion

Use account settings to update your profile, download your account data or delete your account. Private exploration and support views provide their own available export and deletion controls. Revoking a family connection ends the access it granted.

For a privacy request, use the private contact form with the Privacy topic. Tell us what you want to access, correct or remove without including sensitive documents. We may ask for information needed to verify ownership before disclosing or changing private data. An authorized representative can contact us through the same channel. Available legal rights depend on your location and the law that applies; we do not penalize you for making a privacy request.

Young users and policy changes

Our college and career exploration tools are intended for prospective students and families. A parent or guardian with a concern about a child’s information should contact us through the Privacy topic so we can investigate and arrange appropriate removal. Avoid submitting sensitive information about yourself or another person.

We update this notice when our practices change and show the effective date above. Contact StudyIndex through the private support form if you have questions about this notice.
